Construction Updates
From March 2010 to December 2011 The Public Theater is under construction. This upgrade and renovation will improve your experience within our building.
Please be aware we are under construction. While we upgrade our bathrooms there is a temporary facility on the north side of the building.
This renovation concludes a ten-year masterplan to improve and upgrade facilities. To date, with support from the City of New York, The Public has completed the first four phases of a five-phased masterplan. Work included repair and reconstruction of the roof, new office and workshop space, new elevators, electrical and mechanical upgrades, and a complete façade restoration. Now it is time to address the public spaces of The Public Theater.
Thank you for your patience and support of our programming during this adventure! We look forward to making all of the changes that will improve your experience at Joe’s Pub and The Public Theater.
Season programming
The Martinson, Anspacher and Newman theaters will remain in use during construction and our season will continue as usual.
Box Office
The box office will be located in the Shiva Theater throughout construction.
Lobby construction
Sections of the lobby will remain in use during construction to be used as a public thoroughfare, with partitions erected to ensure your safety.
Construction noise
Work will be scheduled to not interfere with performances.
Elevators
At least one elevator will always be in operation during construction.
Joe’s Pub
Programming will be as normal, and food services will feature a new food menu until the kitchen expansion is complete.
Facilities
While we build expanded restrooms, we will be providing comfortable and convenient portable restrooms to be placed just outside the building in the north alley.
