Fresh off their first tour, A Ride On The Irish Cream presents an hour long concert of the show's music to celebrate the release of the Original Cast Album!
A fresh and surprising new musical anchored inside the memory of a Michigan backyard on the bank of the Kawkawlin River, A Ride On The Irish Cream rushes forth from the mind of celebrated cabaret and performance artist Erin Markey. A live band and swath of carpet become the space for the thrills and terrors of a relationship between Reagan (Markey), a vainglorious self-made girl, and Irish Cream (Becca Blackwell), her family's pontoon boat/horse. They are in love, but when their relationship is tested by dust ruffles, sex for money, severe T-storms, and a secret cellar, the only way to stay together is to remember all the parts of themselves their bodies tried to forget. Music written in collaboration with frequent collaborators Emily Bate (Going Down Mount Moriah) and Kenny Mellman (Julie Ruin, Kiki and Herb).

“[Markey is] a hilarious combination of jaded cheerleader and hard-charging, wide-eyed rock god…the show's passionate soul sweeps us into its headlong, crazy gallop.” –TIME OUT NEW YORK
“Markey doesn’t fall for the formulaic oversharing that weighs so heavily on American storytelling. Rather, she writes from the knowledge that intimacy is a song and dance of our own making, tightening language into codes between lovers, and sculpting the grand, imposed narratives around relationships into singular and precise stories we can finally call our own.” – ARTFORUM
“In a fevered glance, [Markey] moves between seduction and terror, and with the rise of an owlish eyelid, she pushes gentle vulnerability into cartoonish ridiculousness.”– NEW YORK TIMES
“The indie-rock score is often startlingly gorgeous, and packed with heavenly harmonies.” – NEW YORK POST
“What drives the piece is Markey’s intimate dream logic and her tender, weird chemistry with Blackwell–existing in the nebulous space between juvenile play and sexual awakening.” – THE NEW YORKER
“Erin Markey’s new musical is the rare show that captures an authentic young woman’s point of view, as she navigates love, lust, dance, and relationships.” – AMERICAN THEATRE
