Civic Salon: YEARNING TO BREATHE FREE

Joe’s Pub

Saturday, April 20 at 12pm

Run Time 90 minutes

Public Forum

Free and open to all

Although we are a nation founded by immigrants, the United States has seen ongoing rejection of open borders and an embrace of nativist policies. How can we as citizens stand up for our neighbors around the world? Join our keynoter Edafe Okporo (Nigerian LGBTQ refugee and human rights activist, and Director of RDJ Refugee Shelter), poet Camryn Bruno (2019 NYC Youth Poet Laureate), and more for an exploration of how to engage your civic power to help defend those most vulnerable and to stand up for the rights of everyone yearning to breathe free.

In a climate of divisiveness and seclusion, Public Forum is opening its doors to invite audiences to join us every month for Civic Salons: a monthly gathering where we can come together in the spirit of community to nurture our minds and our bodies. Each month will feature a different theme and different participants who will bring readings, songs, and a keynote address— all chosen in the hopes of inspiring civic engagement and social change. Joe’s Pub will offer a full brunch menu available for purchase.
