At the local, state, and federal levels, trans communities across America have organized to combat the ongoing threat of assault and erasure. But as transgender advocate Chelsea Manning has said, “laws don’t determine our existence - *we* determine our existence.” Join keynoter Chase Strangio (Staff Attorney at ACLU and lead council for Chelsea Manning) and other trans artists and organizers as we unpack the continued fight for visibility, representation, and liberation in the face of erasure. The afternoon will also feature poetry from Linda LaBeija and music from Mae Krell.
In a climate of divisiveness and seclusion, Public Forum is opening its doors to invite audiences to join us every month for Civic Salons: a monthly gathering where we can come together in the spirit of community to nurture our minds and our bodies. Each month will feature a different theme and different participants who will bring readings, songs, and a keynote address— all chosen in the hopes of inspiring civic engagement and social change. Joe’s Pub will offer a full brunch menu available for purchase.
