Josh Deutsch's Pannonia celebrates the release of their second album, "The Road to Pannonia," out on vinyl and cd. The new album features stories by award winning author Chris Tarry, artwork by Kendall Eddy, and special guest vocals and narration from Sofia Rei (Bobby McFerrin, John Zorn), Nikolett Pankovits and Heather Masse (The Wailin' Jennies, Prairie Home Companion). The instrumental core of the band consists of Josh Deutsch on trumpet (Lila Downs, Dafnis Prieto), Zach Brock on violin (Snarky Puppy, Stanley Clarke), Ryan Keberle on trombone (Maria Schneider, Sufjan Stevens), Gary Wang on bass (T.S. Monk, Anat Fort), and Ronen Itzik on percussion (Lee Konitz, Vadim Neselovskyi).
"You’ve got to love an album of “traditional folk music from an imaginary place,” which is what Josh Deutsch’s Pannonia delivers... This well-planned, beautifully executed program draws on influences from practically everywhere. Deutsch seems to be obsessive on details, and he’s hell-bent on making music that’s just a little (or perhaps a lot) different than what you’ve heard before. Deutsch and company prove to be fantastic storytellers. The solos are superb... Odd meters, unusual instrumentation, deep compositions, a clearly drawn fantasy world: That’s Pannonia. That’s Josh Deutsch." - Downbeat Magazine (Frank Alkyer - editors pick).
