Dont miss Amber Martin's Sizzling Summer Series at Joe's Pub!
International singing sensation and downtown cabaret star Amber Martin returns to Joe's Pub in three unique shows. Each performance in this series tributes the music of three iconic rock goddesses who lived, loved and made legend in New York City, thus the world.
Friday, July 26
With Musical Director Paul Leschen, Jesse Krakow, Mike Fornatale, David Berger, Nath Ann Carrera, and special guest Shannon Conley.
Amber belts out her favorite and most poignant songs of the late-great queen of acid-blues rock, Janis Joplin. Amber and Janis have some major things in common. They were both born & raised in the Southeast Texas town of Port Arthur. This small bible belt county where there was no shortage of churches, refineries, swamps and bowling alleys, brought great influence to both of their performance styles. Both artists also swiftly left their hometown to follow their dreams on the West Coast & in NYC.
Janis lived for several years at The Chelsea Hotel in NYC, where she crossed paths and shared stories & music with many of the luminary history makers of our time.
Her imprint on the world is still unwavering. This is a celebration of her wild wit, wisdom & spirit. And of course... those pipes!
Saturday, Aug 10
With Musical Director Drew Brody, Patrick Johnson, Jesse Krakow and Brett Every, and special guests Boylesque dancers in towels.
This performance focuses on the early 70's era of Bette Midler during her hungry show-pony days as the resident firecracker chanteuse singing at the legendary Continental Baths uptown (now a parking lot under The Ansonia). She got her start singing in the hot steamy gay bathhouse to men in towels, still wet from the pool and other dark spaces, with her as yet unknown accompanist, Barry Manilow (Drew Brody). As per fashion of Bette... copious amounts of singing, stories and dancing ensue!
Audience encouraged to dress in your best bathhouse attire!
