BETTY, the activist pop rock band fronted by Alyson Palmer and sisters Elizabeth and Amy Ziff, known for clever lyrics, soaring harmonies, and their riotous live shows is back at Joe’s Pub for their Spring Show! Over the past 33 years, the band’s distinctive sound and inspired humor have been heard on television (The L Word theme song, Weeds, and more), in films (Life With Mikey, The Out-of-Towners, and more), Off-Broadway with BETTY Rules, directed by Michael Greif (Dear Evan Hanson, Next to Normal, RENT), on commercials, in concerts on all but two continents, and in dozens of recordings of their own and as guests, including their latest album, On The Rocks, available on iTunes.
BETTY’s feminist passion and international work as Arts Envoys for the US State Department led Gloria Steinem to suggest they create a non-profit for their ongoing programs on behalf of women, girls, LGBTQ+ people and others marginalized by society. In 2016, The BETTY Effect began formally, supporting the band’s outreach in India, South and Central America, Africa, Eastern Europe and across the US. Always more than a band, BETTY was featured in Eve Ensler’s original staging of The Vagina Monologues , the Carnegie Hall Salute to Sondheim and sang the National Anthem at Wrigley Field.
