As RighteousGIRLS, New York-based flutist Gina Izzo and pianist Erika Dohi “Rattle speakers and expectations with stop-time razzle, vocal (flute-talk) and electronic (phaser) effects" (NYC Jazz Record) while continually expanding their creative reach by bringing 21st century music to new audiences and commissioning works that root themselves in classical idioms but draw from other genres. On August 21 at Joe’s Pub, RighteousGIRLS (featuring Immanuel Wilkins, saxophone; Nick Dunston, bass; and Jeremy Dutton; drums) will explore beyond the acoustic medium, expanding their sonic world with an original improvised set expanding on numbers and time; highlighted through immersive multi-track layering, complexed meters, improvisation, and electronics. The program culminates with a re-imagined version of "21" by steel-pannist and composer Andy Akiho.
