‘Beauty Kills Me’ is a one-night only album release concert in celebration of John Kelly’s first studio album, a recording of songs written in collaboration with avant chanteuse and songwriter Carol Lipnik. This contemporary art song cycle will be performed live, with a backdrop of sweeping video projections from the original theatrical production of ‘The Escape Artist’ at Performance Space 122 (in 2011). Ms. Lipnik will be joining Kelly onstage to sing the additional vocal lines, as their voices blend and navigate multiple octaves and vocal styles. At the heart of these songs are musings on the paintings of Caravaggio, trips to riveting dreamscapes and dazzling nightmares, and amorous forays through provocative terrain. Additional songs include an aria by Monteverdi, a James Bond theme song, and music by French singer songwriter Charles Aznavour. John Kelly's ‘Beauty Kills Me’ is released by Strange Troubadour Records, and will be available online and for digital download on May 3rd here.
