Health & Safety Policy Update

We are excited to welcome you back to The Delacorte Theater for our 60th Anniversary Season of Free Shakespeare in the Park. We ask that you read and understand the following when accessing tickets.

  • Effective April 19, 2022, The Public requires proof of a complete COVID-19 vaccination to enter The Delacorte and attend performances. This policy will continue until further notice.
  • Complete vaccination is fourteen days following a final dose of the Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Moderna, or Astra-Zeneca vaccine.
  • We will accept proof of vaccination via Excelsior Pass, the NYC Covid Safe Pass, a copy or photo of your CDC vaccination card, and/or a copy or photo of an official immunization record from outside the United States.
  • Face masks are encouraged, but not required while attending performances at The Delacorte.
  • Public Theater staff and artists are subject to a mandatory vaccination and booster policy.
  • All policies are subject to change at The Public’s sole discretion and without notice.
  • Those that do not abide by any health and safety protocols will be denied entry or removed from the facility.

  • All performances in Joe’s Pub do not require a face mask because food and drink are available throughout the show. A face mask is strongly encourage when not actively eating or drinking.

About Play On!.

Play On! was written by Grammy Award-winning music educator Melissa Salguero, the music director of the Hunts Point Children’s Shakespeare Ensemble. Three years ago, Melissa created the song as an ensemble anthem, and every new group of young people in the program since then have learned the song. Using words by Shakespeare and core values chosen by the young people themselves, Heard, Proud, Confident, Empowered and Strong, we think the song resonates more now than ever! Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ensemble has continued to meet online to learn, create, share and build community, and now as we go into a new year, they wanted to share with the world their message of encouragement to PLAY ON!

About the HPCSE.

The Hunts Point Children’s Shakespeare Ensemble is a year-long comprehension, rehearsal, and performance program offered by the Public Theater’s Public Shakespeare Initiative in collaboration with the Hunts Point Alliance for Children. Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders from local schools in Hunts Point spend an entire academic year learning about, rehearsing, and ultimately performing a Shakespeare play. Now in its 14th year, previous productions by the Ensemble have included AS YOU LIKE IT, ROMEO & JULIET, THE HAMLET PROJECT, THE TEMPEST and TWELFTH NIGHT. In May 2021 the Ensemble will present a digital interpretation of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM.
