Canciones de Mis Ancestros is a heartfelt celebration of the composers and performers who have immortalized the beloved Mexican folk tradition of ranchera for over a century. This concert honors mariachi as a vibrant form of intergenerational connection, as a way to pay tribute to our ancestors, embrace our roots, and sustain cultural traditions across migration and lineage.
Marking the Joe’s Pub debut of Doris Anahí Muñoz, a Mexican-American singer-songwriter from Southern California and organizer of the Solidarity for Sanctuary concerts, the evening will feature Doris’s interpretations of ranchera classics alongside her original compositions, accompanied by the Mariachi Real de México de Ramón Ponce.
Prepare to sing along to iconic rancheras by legendary artists such as Paquita la del Barrio and Juan Gabriel, and experience the powerful voice and artistry of Doris Anahí Muñoz—whose performances are inspired by the unforgettable interpretations of icons like Chavela Vargas, Lola Beltrán, and Linda Ronstadt.
This performance is part of México Now Festival with the support of NYU Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS)
