Join performance artist, translator, musician, and vocalist Haleh Liza Gafori for an uplifting and penetrating night of music and poetry, featuring her acclaimed translations of the 13th century mystic Rumi as well as songs sung in the original Persian. Accompanied by musicians including multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, hailed by The New York Times as "one of music's most coveted collaborators," and additional guests to be announced, Gafori creates a vibrant cross-cultural musical dialogue that bridges the elemental and the celestial, the visceral and the ecstatic, as Rumi's poetry, rooted in the earth and reaching toward the infinite, urgently and tenderly speaks to us in these times. This performance celebrates Rumi's 819th birthday and marks Gafori's 10-year anniversary of translating his poetry.
