*Due to circumstances beyond the artist or festival's control, Ghalia Benali will unfortunately not be performing at this year's Habibi Fest.
Launched in 2021, Habibi Festival (HF) was founded by saxophonist/composer Yacine Boulares, curator/producer Meera Dugal, and Joe’s Pub Director Alex Knowlton to celebrate the complexity, vitality, and beauty of music from the Arab world and SWANA diaspora. By presenting traditional, reimagined, and contemporary collaborations, HF supports the continued evolution and appreciation of music from this region. HF’s main events include the flagship fall festival at Joe’s Pub, an annual collaboration with NYC’s longest-running free music festival, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! in Prospect Park, as well as pop up concerts across the year.
Each October, Habibi Festival presents an expansive range of music across multiple nights featuring local and international artists. Lineups have featured everything from 800-year old Moroccan gnawa to Mauritanian rock to Palestinian indie folk. Each night also features an on-stage conversation between the artists and global media platform afikra to take audiences deeper into the creative process and cultural context of the music.
For the 6th edition of the festival, experience the wide-ranging sounds the fest is known for, from Amir ElSaffar’s ecstatic, microtonal jazz and Nadine El Roubi’s lush neo-soul to Akram Abdulfattah’s genre-defying violin, Marwa Morgan and Ameer Armaly’s Egypt-rooted traditional Arabic music, Laura Elkeslassy’s spellbinding Judeo-Arab cabaret. Across the festival, these artists bring together deep musical traditions and contemporary influences to create music that is soulful, adventurous, rhythmic, and alive.

Amir ElSaffar New Quartet
Amir ElSaffar New Quartet
New Quartet Live at Pierre Boulez Saal documents the initial encounter between trumpeter Amir ElSaffar's trio, consisting of Tomas Fujiwara, one of NYC's most in-demand and dynamic drummers, and Ole Mathisen, a tenor saxophonist of unparalleled technique and versatility, with Greek pianist Tania Giannouli, a rising star who has headlined almost every major jazz festival and venue in Europe over the past several years.
ElSaffar’s nuanced and vibrant trumpet sound, rooted in Chicago school classical technique, combining subtle ornamentation and microtones of Arab Maqam with Jazz influences ranging from Miles to Woody Shaw, resonates throughout the session, guiding the new ensemble into unexplored musical territories. The music ranges from intensely quiet and nearly silent to ecstatic and declamatory, with the microtonal piano ringing ear-opening and beautifully unconventional harmonies throughout.
The four musicians had a mini-residency consisting of two rehearsal days, a concert, and an all day recording session at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, a hall known for its phenomenal acoustics and legacy of its namesake, 20th century pioneer conductor and composer Pierre Boulez.

Laura Elkeslassy: Ya Ghorbati يا غربتي - Divas in Exile
Laura Elkeslassy: Ya Ghorbati يا غربتي - Divas in Exile
A retro-futurist cabaret, Ya Ghorbati: Divas in Exile excavates the music of midcentury North African Judeo-Arab divas, weaving together North African folk and sacred music, ranging from traditional Andalusi style, to popular Chaabi, to Francarabe cabaret. Ya Ghorbati moves across time and space to trace a history of political upheaval, exile, and displacement, ultimately questioning the supposed binary of Arab and Jew.
Laura Elkeslassy is a singer of Judeo-Arab music. Her work draws inspiration from her Moroccan roots exploring North-African folk, Andalusi nubas, and Maghrebi Jewish liturgy. Laura’s ongoing journey of self-discovery–which includes forgotten ancestors, wild synchronicities found in dusty old bookstores, and the reclaiming of a lost family name–is the inspirational heart of her project, Ya Ghorbati: Divas in Exile.

Rasha Nahas
Rasha Nahas
Rasha Nahas is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist, musician, songwriter, producer, composer and actress working across music, film and theatre. Born in Haifa and working between Berlin and New York, she emerged from Haifa’s underground counterculture and has built an artistic world shaped by poetry, rock’n’roll, Arabic song traditions and performance.
A guitarist and songwriter, Nahas began playing classical guitar at ten and by her teens was writing and performing her own songs. The guitar remains foundational to her work, while her songwriting moves between punk-rock, singer-songwriter influences and spoken word. Her experience as a Palestinian ’48er shapes her relationship to storytelling, place and belonging.
Nahas’s debut album, Desert, released in 2021, emerged from the period in which Nahas left Haifa for Berlin. In 2023, she followed with her sophomore album Amrat, released through UK independent label Cooking Vinyl and recorded at 67Studio in the occupied Golan Heights. Amrat brought together some of the founding musicians of Palestine’s independent scene. It was followed by sold-out release shows in Germany and an extensive international touring cycle across five continents.
Nahas’s upcoming third album Lime Tree شجر الليمون, was produced by Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Meshell Ndegeocello and Nahas, is Nahas’ most ambitious work to date. The album is a personal reflection of the state of the world today, shaped by questions of resilience, ancestry, memory and intersectionality. Musically, Lime Tree marks a significant expansion of Nahas’s sound. The production is spacious and precise, allowing the weight of the musicianship and the detail of the songwriting and guitar work to remain at the center. The record reflects a growing maturity in Nahas’s craft, with a strong emphasis on poetic language and lyrical precision, moving through punk, alongside electronic & percussive textures, spoken word and intimate ballads while pushing further into the territory of energetic Arabic rock.
Nahas is building an artistic world that moves between the underground and the international stage, between Haifa, Berlin and New York, and across music, film, theatre and visual culture. At its heart is a belief in making space for a distinctly Palestinian voice in the pop-cultural imagination without sanding down any of its edges.
