Joe McGinty & The Loser’s Lounge: Squeeze vs. XTC – The Battle of the Bands!

Come see the songs of SQUEEZE vs. the songs of XTC, performed live, as these two titans of late 1970’s New Wave UK POP go toe to toe at Joe’s Pub, when Joe McGinty & The Loser’s Lounge present this brand new, one-of-a- kind, show! YOU the audience will decide who the winner will be, between:

SQUEEZE, who came out of the London New Wave scene, and were christened early on as “the heirs to the Lennon and McCartney throne,” with the incredible songwriting partnership of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook. They created a river of UK smash hits including: Tempted, Black Coffee In Bed, Up The Junction, Take Me I’m Yours, Another Nail In My Heart, Pulling Mussels (from the Shell), Cool For Cats, Annie Get Your Gun, and more! Their style was, - and continues to be - influential, and their hits still HIT!  

And, in the other corner…

XTC, who created an elaborate style of angular guitar pop that was embraced by the new wave audience, and featured powerful UK and College Radio hits including: Senses Working Overtime, Generals and Majors, Dear God, Mayor of Simpleton, Making Plans for Nigel, The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead, and many more. The members of XTC also took a detour from their own band’s identity, recreating themselves as the ‘60s style psychedelic band “The Dukes of Stratosphear.”  Despite a staggering creative output, after a 1981 tour opening for The Police, XTC decided to focus on studio recordings only, and to stop performing live for good, making this Loser’s Lounge series one of the only places where you can see the music of XTC performed live. In fact, Andy Partridge of XTC has even acknowledged The Loser’s Lounge as the best place to see XTC’s music performed live, and said this himself (Joe McGinty has it on tape!).
