Lama El Homaïssi returns to the stage with her latest show “Hakawatiya”, a new solo cabaret paying tribute to her Lebanese roots, the stories and tunes that have shaped her throughout her journey from Beirut to New York. The evening features Lama’s signature blend of underground Arabic jazz cabaret, Broadway musical comedy, and rock and roll.
Hakawatiya (which translates to “storyteller”) refers to the historic oral storytelling tradition in Arab culture, and as censorship rises and artists are targeted for speaking truth to power, now is as important a time as ever to insist upon telling our stories as an act of resistance and liberation.
