Meet Henrietta Jackson, Neue Gallery’s curator on the rise. She’s chic, she’s 50, and she just ran into her estranged high-school sweetheart. With a little divine guidance from the MTA’s Bernie Wagenblast, Henrietta navigates her resparked flame, traversing through time from small-town Georgia in 1989, where her young love first blossomed, and present-day New York City. When life skips the local and goes express — what’s a Doll to do?
Lisa Stephen Friday’s A MUSICAL FOR HENRIETTA, created as part of Joe’s Pub New York Voices commission, combines a Post-Punk/New Wave score and a healthy dose of '90s romcom glee to guide our trans ingenue on a journey of new love that heals old wounds.
HENRIETTA is a love letter to the remarkable trans community that continues to thrive in the face of oppression
