At this special engagement at Joe's Pub, Michela leads an ensemble of tap dancers and musicians, including acclaimed singer
Charenee Wade, in "Steppin’ with 'The Kid': A Celebration of Betty Carter," honoring iconic vocalist and one of Michela's greatest inspirations,
Betty Carter. This program celebrates National Tap Dance Day and Betty Carter's birthday, both of which occur in May.
The only woman lifetime honorary member of
The Copasetics and recipient of the Hoofer Award, Michela has performed on iconic stages including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Newport Jazz Festival. Mentored by tap legends
Gregory Hines,
Buster Brown, and others, she has collaborated with jazz greats including
Wynton Marsalis,
Esperanza Spalding, and
Jon Batiste. As a teacher, Michela shares her expertise at universities and tap festivals worldwide, continuing to push the boundaries of tap dance in music.
