Curated by Nia Drummond — “the First Lady of the Apollo Stages,” fresh off a sold-out show at the iconic Apollo Theater — this night highlights Black artists across the diaspora who built the sound of this country from the ground up. spirituals, gospel, jazz, opera, soul, rock n roll … it’s all in there. The roots, the branches, the whole family tree. Joined by an ensemble of special guests, the stage becomes a living, breathing conversation — where every note carries history and every moment feels like it’s happening.

This isn’t stiff or ceremonial. It’s warm. It’s alive. It’s that feeling when the room locks in and the music starts talking back. Expect stories, deep cuts, and moments that feel like church, like home.

Described by The Wall Street Journal as a “moving and electrifying performer,”  award winning singer, songwriter, pianist, and historian Nia Drummond is a Brooklyn-born artist whose work lives at the crossroads of tradition and transformation. Her voice moves fluidly through opera, jazz, soul, gospel, and spirituals genres that form a living archive of Black musical expression. Whether on a concert stage or in a sacred space, Nia performs with a clear sense of purpose: to remember, to reclaim, and to reimagine.

Presented in partnership with YoungArts.
