When Voices Rise is a showcase of original music featuring the winning songwriters from a nationwide contest inspired by the legacy of the protest music of the turbulent 1960s and 1970s in the U.S. and Latin America. Chosen by a panel of industry professionals and activists from more than 200 submissions, the performance brings together the top songs in a vibrant tapestry of musical styles—from intimate storytelling and theatrical flair to Latin rhythms, uplifting ensemble voices, and contemporary anthems—proving that the spirit of protest music is alive and evolving.
The evening spotlights the work of winning songwriters Crys Matthews, Karina Daza, and Rissi Palmer, alongside finalists Mare Berger, Rosabella and Dina Gregory, Victor V. Gurbo, Aly Halpert, Eric C. Jones, Lauren Marcus, Rebecca Murillo, and Rona Siddiqui.
Mexican multi-hyphenate musical theatre storyteller Jaime Lozano emcees this exciting evening, demonstrating how music can serve as both a refuge and a rallying cry for hope and resistance. Come witness this creative response to history in the making.
