Sharon Katz & The Peace Train travel worldwide with a message of peace and unity, playing South African music that gets their audiences jumping to the indestructible South African beat. Katz is a guitarist, singer and composer, from Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa, and founder of The Peace Train Project which traveled across South Africa by train with 150 musicians and singers before the election of Nelson Mandela in 1994.
In the USA she has built a band around her with talented musicians from around the globe. They will be returning from a major production in Tijuana, Mexico and heading to Cuba to headline a festival. Katz plays slick African guitar grooves complemented by bass, drums, keyboards, and percussion and distinctive South African vocal harmonies. The band recently recorded a new CD in South Africa and some of these hot new tracks will be featured at Joe's Pub where this crowd pleasing band has been playing every couple of years to packed houses. They look forward to this return engagement!
Opening Act: Roberta Feldhusen performs songs from her new show Who's That Woman?
"Katz's style is steeped in a myriad of influences. The most persistent vibe in her music is Township rhythms. Mbaqanga, Kwela and Township Jazz have a strong presence in her music." (Billboard Magazine)
