What's On
Cristina Morrison - singer, actor, producer - comes back for her first live show in New York since the pandemic and is thrilled to make her Joe's Pub debut. She will bring a celebration of music, a repertoire composed of her own songs as well as classics from the Latin American Songbook from her latest & third album, Impredecible: voces de mujer (Unpredictable: women voices) in reimagined arrangements by long-time collaborator, Misha Piatigorsky.
Cristina, the Baronesa, as she's often called after a role she played for a docu-drama based on a true Galapagos story, sings in many languages and calls her music, "a cross genre eclectic jazz adventure." She's strongly influenced by her American & Latin roots and her inspiration for writing lyrics comes from her nomadic life, nature, love, and the importance of silence for creativity. Cristina's second album, Baronesa, received a double nomination at the 15th Independent Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album & Best Jazz Song. She currently lives between New York, Quito & the Galapagos Islands where she holds social responsibility programs through the arts. She's performed at various jazz festivals including: Java Jazz, Riviera Maya Jazz & SXSW and she's founder of the Galapagos Music Fest.
"Providing another session of magical moments, Cristina Morrison's creative and genre-blending Baronesa showcases a superb vocal instrument in a tasteful collaboration with pianist Piatigorsky, and features cast of world-class players who interpret a set of world-styled music with grace." - Edward Blanco, All About Jazz
