Ryan Raftery returns to Joe’s Pub with The Trial of Andy Warhol - his sixth consecutive celebrity biomusical. Andy Warhol is dead and on trial in the afterlife for laying the foundation for social media culture, which had led to the veritable end of modern society as we all feverishly chase our own “fifteen minutes of fame”. Oh, and it’s a musical.
A cross between the beloved classic “It’s A Wonderful Life” and the searing documentary “The Social Dilemma”, the show also features portrayals of Warhol superstar Edie Sedgewick, longtime confidant Brigid Berlin and collaborator Jean-Michel Basquiat.
With stageplay and parody lyrics by Raftery, the story is told through the music of artists as varied as Madonna, Blondie, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Taylor Swift.
