What's On
Powerhouse rock & soul singer Bette Smith traces elements of her life-affirming current album The Good, The Bad & The Bette to her childhood in Brooklyn, NY. Musically, it connects to the gospel music she heard in church and the soul music on the corners. The release features guests Luther Dickinson from North Mississippi Allstars and Patterson Hood from Drive-By Truckers and was produced by Drive-By Truckers’ Matt Patton and engineer Bronson Tew. Receiving major praise, the record landed on “Best Albums of 2020” list by legendary critic Jim DeRogatis, whose “Sound Opinions” is broadcast on over 100 NPR affiliates around the country. Now with concerts returning at last, audiences can experience the sassy, soulful singer live and see why Smith is being compared to Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and the Bettys (Davis and Wright).
Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (sax and guitar) Vanessa Collier blends blues, roots, soul and jazz. Her new album recorded at Power Station at Berklee NYC in New York with a studio audience is out now, the follow-up to her two previous releases Heart on The Line and Honey Up. Winner of three Blues Music Awards (including a 2022 win for Contemporary Blues Female Artist). 2013 graduate with a dual degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. 2022 Festival performances among others: Rochester Intl Jazz Festival, Ottawa Blues Festival, Harvest Music Festival in Fredericton, NB Canada, Carolina Blues Festival in Greensboro, NC, Allegheny County Summer Concert Series in Pittsburgh, PA, Utah Blues Festival, Reading Blues Festival in Reading, PA and summer festivals in Spain, Germany, Belgium and Finland.
Kyshona blends roots, rock, R&B, and folk with lyrical prowess. She is both a sought after collaborative vocalist working with artists like Margo Price, Adia Victoria and Jason Isbell, and a burgeoning performer in her own right whose 2020 release Listen, put her squarely in the center of the Nashville music scene.
