Laurasia celebrates the 50th Anniversary of its conception with the release of BROTHERHOOD: THE EAST RIVER SONGS, new recordings of 13 of its classic tunes featuring new lyrics and a host of musical guests.
In September 1973 when the “new acoustic music” was new, John Houshmand (guitars), Patrick Noonan (guitars), and Jonathan Levi (violin) met under a tree in New Haven, Conn. Their jam sessions launched a unique & original musical collaboration, merging the folk, classical, Near Eastern, bluegrass, rock and jazz elements of their individual backgrounds. Over the next half century, they played individually and together with musicians from around the world. Called “Chaplinesque classy folk-jazz” at the time of their 1978 LP release, Laurasia has evoked comparisons with such diverse artists as Paul Winter, Pentangle, Leo Kottke, David Grisman, and Bruce Cockburn
