Sophia Club: Africana Philosophy

Sophia Club: Africana Philosophy

July 13, 2023

After sell-out shows across London, New York and Melbourne, the Sophia Club returns to New York City once again to take audiences on an immersive journey of ideas, conversation and performance.

Africana philosophy

Africana philosophy encompasses the thought raised by the African diaspora. It is a huge, complicated, multifarious tradition that addresses themes of human existence, freedom, justification, and redemption born from the struggles against an often-hostile world. Join Lewis Gordon, Moor Mother, and host Sam Dresser as we explore, through conversation and music, the development of Africana philosophy: its promises, its challenges, and its powerful lessons.

About Sophia Club

Everyone has a stake in philosophy; its vitality can be drawn out and re-energised through conversation, with each other, and the arts. The Sophia Club creates a space for people to come together, ponder big questions, encounter new perspectives, and appreciate the rich connections between thought, emotions and artistic expression.

We call this space Live Philosophy.

The Sophia Club is the latest venture from Aeon Media, the publisher of Aeon and Psyche magazines. To be the first to hear about our event program, follow the Sophia Club on Instagram @sophiaclub_live or sign up to the newsletter at sophiaclub.co.
