Aya Aziz & Kate Eberstadt

August 22, 2024

Get ready for an exclusive preview of Aya Aziz and Kate Eberstadt’s debut solo albums RAPIDS and HEAVEN ON EARTH, two confessional pop LPs to dance and cry to before they’re released (and go viral, obviously).

Aya and Kate bonded while devising a fantastical theater experience for a festival in Nepal that never happened (add it to the book of COVID). The two singer-songwriters connected deeply over their shared experience as teenagers who’d sneak away to write songs in their high school piano rooms – “it me!!!” Together they envisioned their respective debut solo albums, with many shared inspirations: Dido, Laurie Anderson, Robyn, Frank Ocean. Since re-emerging from lockdown, Aya and Kate have championed each other’s music, including keeping a sacred 9am Zoom to carry each other toward the finish line. Come delight in the rewards of these two visionaries lifting each other up, directed by Molly Rose Heller.

Aya Aziz is a composer, playwright, and performer. She created the musical “Eh Dah? Questions for my Father” (NYTW)  which the NYTimes called “musically adventurous” while dissing her “seemingly narrow” vocal range. She had two paralyzed vocal cords that night okay, Laura?? (jk Laura, thanks for the sweet review!) She composed and music directed House of Telescopes (Pipeline Theater), and in June danced in Gathering by Yaa Samar Dance Theater (The Shed). Aya’s album RAPIDS was made possible by the NYC Women’s Fund and SPACE on Ryder Farm's Bryan Gallace Posthumous Productions Musician Fellowship. You can find her single Rapids on all streaming platforms.

Kate Eberstadt is a singer-songwriter, writer and actor. Most recently, her solo show WHERE WE MEET premiered this summer at Ars Nova's ANT Fest, and will be in residence at the cell theatre this September. Her work has been featured in Glamour, Elle, PopSugar, Hollywood Life, NPR, Mic.com and more. Kate and her sister Izzi began releasing music under the name Delune in 2018, to warm critical reception. With support from Good Hart Artist Residency, Kate teamed up with Seattle-raised producer/songwriter Jake Crocker to create her debut solo project, set to release this year.
