What's On
Jamie Leonhart is a sharp-witted singer-songwriter who refuses to be categorized; dynamic in emotional range and diverse in genre-crossing ability. She inhabits a hybrid of popular music that incorporates jazz, soulful indie-pop, and quirky torch song cabaret. Live, her audience becomes a collective co-conspirator as she intones her confessions, dissatisfactions and desires, supported by arrangements that move from somber to playfully bombastic in a moment. Leonhart’s approachable demeanor belies powerhouse vocals and her ability to deliver intricate compositions, which she does with depth and clarity.
As a songwriter, Jamie writes about vulnerability, patience, frustration, shifting perspectives and trust. “A lot of my music explores the human condition in its most basic form. Simple and to the core can be very effective.” Leonhart says. She also is a keen researcher, and examines the minutiae of a topic before anthropomorphizing it to inhabit her material. Nature and natural occurrences play large roles in her creative work.
Her debut record, the truth about suffering was released on Sunnyside Records. Leonhart is a commissioned New York Voices artist of Joe’s Pub, under which she created her one-woman musical narrative, Estuary: an artist | mother story, an exploration of the challenges and unanticipated realities of being an artist and a new parent.
Jamie will be joined by producer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Michael Leonhart and a host of other incredibly talented musicians.
Leonhart’s sophomore recording, the illusion of blue, is available on all digital platforms.
