With music ranging from traditional folk tunes to newly commissioned works, Downes celebrates the beauty of the American experiment while offering an unflinching acknowledgment of its flaws and failings, ultimately embracing the power of hope and humanity as a pathway to common ground and a brighter future.
With special guests Theo Bleckmann and Vuyo Sotashe.
Lara will also be joined by best-selling author and New York Times cultural commentator John McWhorter in a spirited conversation reflecting on the independent and innovative essence of American music, tracing the musical language of this land back to its blended roots and complex origins.
