disOrientalism is a truly New York experience-- bringing together the best artists from Broadway, Stand Up Comedy, Dance, and Music for one spectacular all-star AAPI variety hour. To start off the year of the Snake, we are going to love you a long time with some one-of-a-kind performances carefully curated and hosted by New York's original dragon ladies-- notorious comedienne/rapper Kate Siahaan-Rigg alongside child star-turned-Broadway-actress Olivia Oguma. Joining us are Kathleen Kim, the creator of the first Asian-American muppet character in the history of Sesame St., iconic award-winning actor and activist BD Wong, rising star comic Adam Mamawala, Korean Broadway star Joomin Hwang, and killer nuyorasian rock duo Slanty Eyed Mama. The program lasts about 75 minutes and is designed to boost your immunity against boredom, cold nights and steam heats in your walkup apartment, xenophobia, orientalism, objectificAsian, and bowl cuts.
Ruchir Khazanchi (MUSIC DIRECTOR) is a New York-based actor and musician originally from Omaha, Nebraska. Select acting credits include The Tank, Syracuse Stage, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Northlight Theatre, and The Paramount Aurora. His indie film debut in Zach Clark’s The Becomers is now available on Amazon, Apple TV, and Google Play following its nationwide theatrical release in 2024. Last year, he recorded his debut EP, “True American”, and his writing projects have been semifinalists for the O’Neill National Music Theatre Conference as well as the National Alliance for Musical Theater conference.
BD Wong won the Tony Award for his Broadway debut in M. BUTTERFLY. Other Broadway include the revivals of YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN and PACIFIC OVERTURES. Films include HEART OF STONE, BIRD BOX, three JURASSIC WORLD films, FOCUS, MULAN 1 & 2, SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET, FATHER OF THE BRIDE 1 & 2, and JURASSIC PARK. Television includes THE GIRLS ON THE BUS, AWKWAFINA IS NORA FROM QUEENS, MR.

Joomin Hwang was born and raised in South Korea. He is an award winning break dancer and pop-locker and was a competitive gymnast before attending University of Wisconsin before returning to his passion for performance. Broadway credits include The Prom , and KPOP and he is currently wowing audiences in &Juliet. He is the first native Korean to perform at the Tony Awards and the first to play Francois in &Juliet. TV/ Film Hail Mary!, Iron Fist, Isn’t It Romantic, In the Heights, and Pose.
Kathleen Kim is a NYC based puppeteer and voice artist best known for her work on Sesame Street at Ji-Young, the first Asian-American Muppet character in the show's 50+ year history. Her other credits include SNL, Awkwafina's Nora From Queens, The Today Show, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Helpsters on Apple TV+ and Mo Willems' The Pigeon Explains.
Lyris Hung began her violin studies at the age of 3 in the exotic wilds of Fairfield County, Connecticut. At 11, she was accepted into the Juilliard Pre-College Division and at 17, she started a double-degree program between the Juilliard School and Columbia University where she earned a B.A. in Anthropology and Music from Columbia and an M.M. in Violin Performance from Juilliard. She has been heard on Bryan Adams' MTV Unplugged, live with Bono and Quincy Jones at the 1999 NetAid concert, live with the 2003 Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and has toured Europe and America with RCA recording artist Ke. She has also played with hip-hop giant Jay-Z and Beyoncé with ?Love of the Roots, Dan Zanes, Ornette Coleman, Toshi Reagon, and many others. Aside from working with bands, Lyris enjoys collaborating with artists from other media. She has composed and performed with choreographers, musical directed theater pieces, worked as sound designer for games and other interactive media, as well as been behind the board as a producer. Lyris formed progressive death metal band HUNG which released several records, most recently on The End Records. Lyris' trip-hop comedy/music duo with Kate Rigg, Slanty Eyed Mama, performs at colleges and festivals around the world,Lyris currently tours and records with the Indigo Girls and streams regularly on Twitch.
Adam Mamawala is a stand-up comedian, actor and podcaster based out of New York City. He has appeared on Comedy Central, MTV, BET, Amazon Prime and SiriusXM, and both of his albums, Statistically More Relatable (2022) and One of the Good Ones (2017) debuted at #1 on the iTunes Comedy Charts. Most recently, Adam has toured as Dane Cook’s feature act, performing on 20 shows at iconic venues such as The Fillmore in Detroit, The Met in Philadelphia and NYC’s Beacon Theatre.
Kate Siahaan-Rigg (@kateriggnyc): A star on the Manhattan comedy scene, producer and co-host Kate Rigg graduated from Juilliard drama and immediately began moonlighting in comedy and spoken word club stages around the country, bringing solo shows (Zombie Asian Moms, Happy Lucky Golden Tofu Panda Dragon Good Time Fun Fun Show) and creating wild events like this one all over the city. In her day job she creates and produces comedy based tv shows and acts in plays.
Olivia Oguma (@olioguma): Co-host and producer Olivia was the first Asian-American Young Cosette in Les Misérables and has been wowing New York audiences ever since in the Broadway casts of Mamma Mia, A Christmas Carol, Disney’s High School Musical and many off Broadway shows. She has appeared in many, many productions of Miss Saigon (and zero productions of King and I. ) She does a lot of plays where she is usually crying or playing a 14 year old and sometimes, she plays a crying 14 year old. She has also been on a bunch of TV shows where she usually plays the token Asian assistant who drops something at inopportune times.
Slanty Eyed Mama (@slantyeyedmama): Fixtures at Asian-American heritage festivals across the world, profiled on PBS, twice invited to the Smithsonian Institute this multi-award winning duo combine powerful electric violin with rock n'roll, comedy and spoken word.
