In 2019, 600 HIGHWAYMEN began documenting occurrences and rituals across rural New York. FIVE YEARS is a multichannel installation built from thousands of short films that capture a place and a time in the country—fractured and alive. Hands at work, kitchens and parking lots, parades and protests, flags and guns, ice storms, pleasure, rage—all seen side by side at mammoth scale. A child is born. The archive grows. Image after image, the world gets larger. Through a deluge of images and sound, the portrait becomes stranger, thornier, harder to resolve. An epic of intimacy. This is a home movie.
