What's On
Seriously Entertaining is House of SpeakEasy's acclaimed series where writers such as Roz Chast, John McWhorter, Sarah Ruhl, Salman Rushdie, and more take the stage to riff and ruminate informally, dinner-theater-style, on the evening’s theme. The Wall Street Journal calls it “Think-y entertainment for New York’s book-loving crowd,” The New York Times says it’s “a literary mixtape [with] perfect flow and variety."
Upcoming Show:|
House of SpeakEasy continues its 2025 season at Joe's Pub with a performance by four celebrated writers, each of whom will share a brand-new story inspired by the theme “Fight No More.”
This month’s featured storytellers include Roya Marsh, a Bronx native and a nationally recognized poet, performer, educator, and activist whose work has been featured on NBC and BET, and published in Poetry, The Village Voice, Nylon, Huffington Post, and in the collection The BreakBeat Poets Volume 2: Black Girl Magic; Ada Calhoun, the author of Also a Poet (which was named one of the best books of 2022 by The New York Times, NPR, and The Washington Post; and longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction) and the upcoming Crush: A Novel; and Henry Lien, a four-time Nebula Award finalist and author of the Peasprout Chen fantasy series, as well as the upcoming non-fiction book Spring, Summer, Asteroid, Bird.
A book signing with all authors follows the show - and the winner of our monthly quotes quiz, “Tip of My Tongue,” will take home all four books for free!
