Maryann Plunkett

MARYANN PLUNKETT (Barbara) just completed a year’s run in the new musical The Notebook for which she was nominated for a 2025 Tony Award as Best Actress in a Musical. She is a Tony, Obie, and Drama Desk Award-winning actress and this year, she and her husband Jay O. Sanders were jointly awarded a Special Citation for Lifetime Achievement. She’s toured Europe, China, and Australia with Richard Nelson’s trilogy The Gabriel Family Plays which first premiered at The Public Theater and was televised on PBS. She has spent a total of 12 years with Nelson’s tetralogy The Apple Family Plays also at The Public, on tour, and also televised on PBS and was recently seen in Nelson’s additional Rhinebeck plays about The Michaels and the three virtual Apple Family plays. Broadway credits include Agnes of God, Sunday in the Park with George, Me and My Girl (Tony Award), The Crucible, St. Joan, A Man for All Seasons. Off-Broadway: Juno & the Paycock and Plough in the Stars (Irish Rep O’Casey Festival), The Lucky Ones (Lortel Award nominee), Aristocrats, Rodney’s Wife, Shakespeare, Chekhov, Shaw, Theater of War. LAILA ROBINS (Marian). Broadway: Heartbreak House, the Tony-nominated play Frozen, The Herbal Bed, and The Real Thing. Off-Broadway: the quartet of Richard Nelson Apple Family plays performed in repertory at The Public to rave reviews, as well as two additional Apple plays performed via Zoom during the pandemic. Other credits include: The Lady from Dubuque, Antony and Cleopatra, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sore Throats, Tiny Alice, Mrs. Klein, and The Merchant of Venice. Robins loves working in her hometown of St. Paul/Minneapolis and has done many plays at the Guthrie, including Hedda Gabler and The Lion in Winter. Jay O. Sanders

Richard

JAY O. SANDERS (Richard) has been a regular presence throughout his career at The Public Theater and Shakespeare in the Park. He originated roles in Richard Nelson’s Rhinebeck Panorama; 12 new plays in 12 years at The Public Theater and Hunter Theater Project, including two international tours and three Covid break Zoom plays. He and wife Maryann Plunkett were presented a 2024 Joint Lifetime Achievement Award from the NY Critics Circle. Most recently, he appeared off-Broadway in This World of Tomorrow at The Shed, Any Minute Now at H.E.R.E Arts Center, Henry IV, Parts 1&2 at TFANA (Falstaff - Drama Desk nomination), and received an Outer Critics Circle Award for his performance in the Roundabout‘s world premiere of 2024 Pulitzer Prize winner Primary Trust. On Broadway, he was in Purlie Victorious and Girl From the North Country, both filmed for Great Performances. Sanders played the title roles in both Cyrano De Bergerac at the Guthrie Theater and Uncle Vanya at the Hunter Theater Project (directed and co-translated by Richard Nelson; 2018 Drama Desk Award, Best Actor). His own play, Unexplored Interior, was the inaugural production of Washington D.C.’s Mosaic Theater Company. His extensive film & television work includes JFK, Day After Tomorrow, Angels in the Outfield, Tumbleweeds, Revolutionary Road, Half Nelson, Edge of Darkness, True Detective (Season 1), Roseanne, Sneaky Pete and most recently in His Three Daughters and M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain (due for a 2027 release). Sanders is also a prolific narrator of PBS documentaries including NOVA, Nature, Wide Angle, and Secrets of the Dead.
